Over the past several years, Nike and MLB have made a concerted attempt to feature a few variety to baseball’s uniforms by means of launching the “City Connect” initiative.
The redesigned alternates have slowly spread across the league, with 13 out of the 30 teams having already launched their new jerseys.
One of the latest teams to be added to the program is the San Diego Padres, an organization that already has a complicated uniform history.
The Padres have again and again modified their uniforms in latest years, redoing their hues, changing fonts and styles, and in the end shifting from a greater regularly occurring white and blue color scheme to their cutting-edge brown and gold set.
The City Connect style is, uh…none of these hues.
In what’s supposedly a nod to a roller coaster at a neighborhood San Diego enjoyment park, the brand new style is remarkably bright and has a various set of, shall we embrace, vibrant colorings:
Those are, quite sincerely, atrocious.
The colours don’t without a doubt work collectively on a uniform and the overall look appears like it’d be a whole lot at domestic inside the minor leagues, not MLB.
While the aim of the City Connect collection is quite obviously to include neighborhood references in uniform design, Nike had so many other alternatives they might have used for San Diego.
The ocean, Torrey Pines, Sea international, Legoland, the San Diego Zoo, Coronado Island and the lodge Del Coronado, the navy connection…there have been so many different alternatives and shade schemes they may have used. Alternatively, they determined on a few sort of neon and mustard colored hybrid.
