Hello everyone, today we continue to introduce the MLB City Edition jersey. In the last issue of Chicago, we introduced the Cubs’ urban version of the jersey. Today we are also staying in Chicago to introduce another team south of the same city, the city version of the Chicago White Sox. It is worth mentioning that the owner of the White Sox, Jerry Michael Reinsdorf, is also the owner of the Bulls, and both have been for more than 35 years.
The Chicago White Sox jersey is dominated by white and black, supplemented by gray.
The Chicago White Sox’s City Edition jersey debuted in June 2021 with a gray Gothic font in the middle of the jersey that reads “Southside” (meaning Southside, the Chicago White Sox are located south of Chicago), inspired by Chicago’s basalt architecture (pictured below). The dark gray stripes of the pants are rare in today’s baseball jersey world, similar to a jersey before the White Sox (Figure 2 below). Nike and the White Sox also say the jersey was inspired by Chicago’s local hip-hop culture.
